Visiting home … memories by Ketan Deshpande

I guess you always call where you were born “home”, hence even though we are now US citizens we still feel a very strong bond towards India. Our close and extended family is there and so are childhood friends, apps like “WhatsApp” have allowed us to stay in touch with our family and friends however meeting them in person is a must to do on our list. It is also a great way for us to step way from the cold Minnesota winter for a few weeks.

Total travel time from Maple Grove, Minnesota to Pune, India is over 24+ hours, can not wait for the super sonic flight options to return or may be the Elon Musk solution, hyper loop from US to India, I know I am dreaming here. Typical travel option includes 3 to 4 hour layover either in the east coast or in Europe plus a 2 hour road trip once we land in India.

We go there to get a load on three F’s, family, friends and food! Our trip planning typically starts with dieting for a month or so before we to depart. We tend to visit India around the Christmas time as that gives us about 2 to 2.5 weeks. A few days are taken by travel alone and by the time we know it, it is time to come back.
