Use of renewable sources continue to rise, the industry now employs over 9.8 million people globally, and recently a few countries set new records when it comes to use of renewable energy.
Germany set a new record … 35 percent
Germany raised the proportion of its power produced by renewable energy to 35 percent in the first half of 2017 from 33 percent the previous year, according to the BEE renewable energy association.
Germany is aiming to phase out its nuclear power plants by 2022. Its renewable energy has been rising steadily over the last two decades thanks in part to the Renewable Energy Act (EEG) which was reformed this year to cut renewable energy costs for consumers.
UK also set a new record … 26 percent
Not to be outdone by Germany, UK’s renewable energy generated a record amount of electricity in the first three months of 2017, making up more than 26 per cent of the total produced in the UK, according to new government figures.
Onshore wind set a new record for a three-month period, providing 8.3 per cent of the UK’s electricity. Renewables provided 26.6 per cent of the total and, including nuclear, low-carbon sources made up 45.6 per cent.
China also set a record …. 100 percent for 7 days
Chinese province of Qinghai region ran on 100% renewable energy for seven days in June 2017, according to news outlet Xinhua. The region operated on solar, wind, and hydropower from June 17 through 23rd.
Hydropower contributed to approximately 72% of the electricity. Nationwide, China hopes to produce 20% of its electricity from clean sources by 2030. Despite the recent rapid growth of clean energy, wind power accounted for just 4% and solar for about 1% of China’s electricity in 2016, according to The Guardian.
The above also comes on the heals of China starting up the world’s largest floating solar power plant in Huainan city in Anhui province.
USA also sets a record ..
US just had a breakthrough in the energy production, in the month of April 2017 we produced more energy utilizing renewable energy vs nuclear power.
China is building its renewable energy infrastructure rapidly to meet the 2030 targets.
